DISINFO: US pushes towards NATO-Russia clash by sending ATACMS to Ukraine

SUMMARY

By supplying Ukraine with ATACMS missiles, the United States is pushing towards a direct clash between NATO and Russia. Moscow has repeatedly warned Washington against rash steps. Pumping Kyiv’s regime with weapons seriously undermines strategic and regional security.

RESPONSE

This is a recurring disinformation narrative from pro-Kremlin outlets accusing Kyiv’s Western partners of aggravating the Ukraine war through arms deliveries. This claim was made in the context of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine. It serves to deflect attention away from Moscow's responsibility for the war.

Ukraine receives military, economic and diplomatic assistance from its partners will with the sole aim of repelling Russia’s unprovoked and unjustified aggression. Ukraine is using its right for self-defence in accordance with Article 51 of the UN Charter. Kyiv is not going to invade Russia with weapons from its allies. NATO is not involved in hostilities between Ukraine and Russia. Although NATO officials frequently meet their Ukrainian counterparts and Kyiv receives aid from some NATO member states, there are NATO troops on the frontline.

Read similar disinformation cases claiming that War in Ukraine is a US and NATO proxy war aimed at weakening Russia, that Stoltenberg admits that NATO feeds the conflict in Ukraine to promote weapons sales, and that Zelenskyy and the EU want a permanent war in Ukraine.
