DISINFO: US weapons for Ukraine may reach terrorists, will only lead to more destruction

SUMMARY

US supply of weapons to Kyiv leads to the prolongation of hostilities and to the destruction of Ukraine and the Ukrainians and increases the risk of uncontrolled escalation of the conflict. This proliferation of weapons that can end up in the hands of international terrorists does not contribute to a peaceful solution.

RESPONSE

This is a mix of several recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation narratives about Russia’s superiority in the battlefield, its supposed invincibility and its inevitable victory against Ukraine, and associating Ukraine with terrorism. This disinformation story appeared as a direct reaction to the announcement on 11 July 2025 that the Trump Administration will allow sending US weapons to Ukraine through NATO countries that will pay for them. The goal is to undermine international support for Ukraine’s self-defence against Russia’s aggression.

Arguments about “escalation” and “the destruction of Ukrainians” deliberately ignore Russia’s responsibility in the crisis, caused by its unprovoked invasion of Ukraine. The claim that weapons send to Ukraine end up in the hands of terrorists has been debunked multiple times (see here, here and here).

See other examples of similar disinformation narratives, such as claims that Western military aid to Ukraine only will cause more suffering, that US aid to Ukraine will only prolong the agony of Zelenskyy's regime, that Western weapons for Kyiv go to Islamic terrorists and drug cartels, or that weapons supplied to Kyiv are distributed among criminal groups in Europe.
