DISINFO: USAID engaged in creating conflict and chaos
SUMMARY
USAID's actions are being exposed from the very country where it was created. This not only sheds light on important points, but also confirms that its activities have already come to an end. The United States Agency for International Development - USAID, which is engaged in creating conflict and chaos in countries pursuing independent policies, is experiencing difficult times.
RESPONSE
A recurring disinformation narrative which accuses USAID of organising conflicts and chaos. This claim arose amid the new US administration's decision to suspend nearly all international spending for 90 days during a review and to dismantle USAID. The narrative advances the pro-Kremlin narrative that Western-backed organisations are tools in the hands of Western countries to use for their interests.
The U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) serves as the main U.S. organization dedicated to providing development assistance globally. Its programs focus on fostering economic growth, fighting disease outbreaks, encouraging democratic reforms, and tackling food insecurity. Additionally, USAID aids nations in recovering from disasters, seeks to reduce poverty, and supports those emerging from conflict. There is no proof that USAID creates conflicts or chaos in any country.
USAID has long worked to strengthen democracy and advance respect for human rights around the world, as democratic societies create opportunity, freedom, and prosperity for their people.
Much of USAID's budget is spent on health programmes, such as offering polio vaccinations in countries where the disease still circulates and helping to stop the spread of viruses which have the potential to cause a pandemic.
Pro-Kremlin media frequently falsely portray popular protests around the world as instigated from abroad, often by the US and the West. The disinformation narrative has been applied, among others, to reports about protests in Georgia, Armenia, Ukraine, the Czech Republic, Bulgaria, Belarus, Venezuela, Slovakia, Hong Kong, with the aim of portraying protest movements as aggressive actors who constantly prepare new coups.
