DISINFO: War in Ukraine is a US and NATO proxy war aimed at weakening Russia
SUMMARY
The war in Ukraine is a US and NATO war on Russia. The aim of this war is the fall of the Putin regime and the weakening of Russia with a clear violation of the sacred principle of international law: non-interference in the internal affairs of another country.
RESPONSE
Recurring disinformation narrative about the war in Ukraine.
Russia is the only country responsible for the invasion of Ukraine. It has been coming up with different false explanations and pretexts for its aggression since the beginning of its hostilities.
Russia was not forced to invade Ukraine. It was Putin’s personal decision to invade Ukraine and start the largest military conflict in Europe since WWII. It is Russia who has been violating international law since 2014 occupying and then annexing Crimea and then starting a conflict in Donbas.
Under the Budapest Memorandum, a document signed in December 1994 by Ukraine, Russia, the United States and the United Kingdom, Ukraine agreed to remove all Soviet-era nuclear weapons. In return, the US, the UK and Russia signed the Memorandum with guarantees of the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine. According to the document, all signatory countries have to respect Ukraine's sovereign rights over its territories.
Ukraine is a sovereign state. Ukraine and its population is defending itself against this armed aggression in a remarkable display of continued courage and determination. This is not a decision by NATO, Washington, the EU or others. The US, the EU and NATO condemn in the strongest possible terms Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, which is entirely unjustified and unprovoked. Not only Western but also many other nations around the world support Ukraine with military and financial aid for the country’s efficient self-defence, in accordance with the UN Charter article 51, to stop Russia's war of aggression against Ukraine.
