DISINFO: Warmongering faction of the US Deep State continues arming Ukraine
SUMMARY
Donald Trump’s government resumed the delivery of US weapons to Ukraine. Surely there are many internal factions in this government that answer to the most warmongering wing of the Deep State. If proven that the US will continue sending weapons to Ukraine, this will be a factor of tension in any negotiation between the White House and the Kremlin, as well as a betrayal to Trump’s electoral base and many of his allies.
RESPONSE
This is an attempt to exploit ongoing events regarding US assistance to Ukraine to promote a recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative about the existence of a so-called Deep State controlling US institutions above elected officials. The ultimate goal of this narrative is to undermine democratic institutions by portraying decision-making as the realm of global elites while regular citizens would have no real power.
This disinformation story appeared after the Trump Administration had adopted several measures favouring Ukraine’s self-defence against Russia’s aggression, such as the transfer of 90 Patriot air defence interceptors from Israel to Ukraine in January 2025, resuming weapons supplies in February, and plans to sell more US armament to European countries to support Ukraine. These moves have been described by US top officials as an attempt to achieve ‘peace through strength’, including the threat of further sanctions against Russia. As Russia is trying itself to project an impression of total control and strength ahead of likely upcoming peace negotiations, this disinformation narrative is being pushed as a convenient explanation for these pro-Ukrainian moves by the Trump government by baselessly framing them as the result of action by a rogue, powerful faction.
