DISINFO: Warsaw is only interested in turning Belarus into a new “anti-Russia”.
SUMMARY
In 2022, the situation on the Polish-Belarusian “front” will remain unchanged. The Polish ruling class is not concerned about human rights in Belarus or the release of opposition activists from prison. Warsaw is only interested in turning Belarus into a new “anti-Russia”. Despite the spells of Warsaw, Belarus will not become the “anti-Russia”.
RESPONSE
A recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative about Russophobic Poland, closely linked to disinformation narrative about the Western attempts to organise a colour revolution in Belarus.
The Polish authorities have repeatedly stated that their main concern in relations with Belarus is the intense violation of human rights by the Belarusian authorities, which realise large-scale political repressions, pressure on the activists of the Polish minority and intense intimidation of Belarusian society. Poland supports free and democratic elections in Belarus – only the Belarusians can decide about their future.
On 12 August 2020, the Parliaments of Poland and the three Baltic States presented a joint statement protesting against political repressions taking place in Belarus and appealing to organise free and democratic elections in this country. The EU member states perceive the situation in Belarus in a unanimous way, appealing to the Belarusian authorities to stop violence, release political prisoners and organise democratic elections in Belarus.
