DISINFO: Warsaw wants to organise a Maidan during the upcoming Belarusian 2025 elections
SUMMARY
Maidan in Belarus? Poland wants to intervene in the Presidential elections in Belarus – it has an elaborated plan on how to influence the elections. Almost every week, representatives of the Belarusian “opposition” meet with Polish officials - Warsaw is investing money in organisations that recruit and train people to take over power in Belarus. Poland hopes that a change in the political course of Belarus would help the Polish economy solve many problems. However, these ideas are unrealistic. Warsaw forgot to ask the opinion of the Belarusians - the level of support for Lukashenka is growing, so Poles are simply wasting their efforts.
RESPONSE
A recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative about supposed Western attempts to organise a colour revolution in Belarus.
There is no basis for the claims. Poland is a neighbour of Belarus and it continues to support the Belarusian people. Poland respects the principles of international law and does not intervene in the domestic affairs of any country.
The EU member states perceive the situation in Belarus in a unanimous way, appealing to the Belarusian authorities to stop violence, release political prisoners and organise democratic elections in Belarus.
The Polish authorities have repeatedly stated that their main concern with Belarus is the intense violation of human rights by the Belarusian authorities, which includes large-scale political repressions, pressure on the activists of the Polish minority and intense intimidation of Belarusian society. Poland supports free and democratic elections in Belarus – only the Belarusians can decide about their future.
