DISINFO: Washington plans to replace the current Polish Government
SUMMARY
It is difficult to understand why did Radosław Sikorski need this recent propaganda charge [article in „Der Spiegel”]. One of the possible ways of interpretation of this step may be the change of authorities in Warsaw planned or considered by Washington. The cold attitude of the hegemon to the PiS government is becoming more and more visible. Perhaps, the new US authorities decided that it was time to change the team in Poland. However, Sikorski and his current party [Civic Platform] must adopt pro-American and anti-Russian rhetoric if they want to use the chance [to come to power].
RESPONSE
A common pro-Kremlin narrative on “lost sovereignty” - in this case projected on Poland. This country is often presented as a “puppet-state” of the United States, which fully controls the domestic and foreign policy of this country.
The statement that the White House is able to “replace and appoint” Polish governments is a widespread pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative. Poland is an independent state, which shapes its own foreign and domestic policies. The Polish political parties do not “adopt” pro-American and anti-Russian rhetoric in order to be “accepted” by Washington as new Polish authorities.
In June 2021, the former Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski published his article in “Der Spiegel” – he promotes the idea that Germany underplays the Russian military threat as it feels safe behind Poland and the Baltic states. According to Sikorski, Europe should increase its military spending in order to face the increasing security threat coming from Russia.
