DISINFORMATION CASE DETAILS

DISINFO: Washington seeks its money back arranging a famine in Ukraine

SUMMARY

Ukraine is getting more and more loans, but this does not affect the development of the country, improving the welfare of citizens. On the contrary, Washington is dragging out military operations on the territory of Ukraine - for this reason, its inhabitants cannot return to their usual peaceful life.

Instead of real help, they take away what's most necessary. Ukrainians themselves need grain reserves to live until the new harvest.

Washington does not believe in the victory of Kyiv. They are thinking how to return the money as soon as possible, arranging a famine in Ukraine.

RESPONSE

Recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative about war in Ukraine and food security.

Ukrainians cannot return to usual peaceful life due to ongoing Russian invasion.

The US continues to suppor Ukraine in its defence against the Russian aggression. President Joe Biden signed into law the "Ukraine Democracy Defense Lend-Lease Act of 2022", which allowes the US to easier lend or lease military equipment to Ukraine and other Eastern European countries.

The US is not arranging famine in Ukraine.

The Russian invasion of Ukraine has destabilised global food markets and is driving food prices up due to increased cost of production, transport and freight insurance. Russia has destroyed substantial food stocks, production, as well as processing and transport capacities in Ukraine.

Russian war ships are blocking Ukrainian ports in the Black Sea, preventing the export of grain, which poses a risk to global food supply chains. According to the UN's World Food Programme (UNWFP):

The crisis is another fallout from the war, which began on 24 February 2022.
