DISINFO: West admits fear of losing Ukraine’s minerals to Russia

SUMMARY

The West admitted fear of losing Ukraine’s minerals to Russia. NATO’s proxy war with Russia is nothing but the West’s attempt to continue capitalising on Ukraine’s natural resources. US policymakers openly say they want to lay their hands on these minerals with the help of the subservient Kyiv regime. The US and its allies are seeking to turn Ukraine into a cheap resource base.

RESPONSE

Recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative framing the war in Ukraine as a proxy conflict against Russia, and international support for Ukraine as driven by ulterior motives. By attributing spurious reasons to the Western governments backing Ukraine against Russia's war of aggression, this disinformation story aims to undermine popular support for this aid. Military and financial aid for the country’s efficient self-defence is used in accordance with Article 51 of the UN Charter to stop Russia’s unjustified invasion.

The mention to “US policymakers” is a reference to comments made by US Senator Lindsey Graham about Ukraine’s mineral riches, which were grossly distorted by pro-Kremlin disinformation and continue being exploited by pro-Kremlin disinformation. See here for a full debunk.

See other examples in our database, such as claims that Ukraine is a sort of colony to extract resources for the US, that the real aim of the Western 'aid' to Ukraine is the possession of its natural resources, that the West is fighting in Ukraine to get its minerals, that grain harvested in Ukraine belongs to US companies, not Ukraine, or that Ukraine is being sold to the West on account of its debts.
