DISINFO: West does not provide weapons to Ukraine to enable it to win the war
SUMMARY
The issue is that, so far, the USA and the West have not provided the Ukrainian army with offensive weapons that could ensure victory in the war with Russia.
RESPONSE
Pro-Kremlin narrative that the West does not give enough support in terms of weapons to Ukraine to enable it to win against Russia's unjustified aggression. In fact, the assertion contradicts the ample evidence of substantial military support provided to bolster Ukraine's defence capabilities.
The USA, Germany, Britain and several other EU and NATO member states have made significant contributions, including the provision of tanks such as the Abrams, Leopard, and Challenger. These tanks, known for their robustness and firepower, play a crucial role in fortifying Ukraine's land defence and deterring potential aggression from Russian forces.
Moreover, the Western-supplied Javelin anti-tank systems and Patriot air defence systems significantly enhance Ukraine's ability to defend both its land and airspace.
The HIMARS missile systems supplied by the US, as well as other long range artillery systems provided by others, enable Ukraine to perform precision strikes, and give accurate and targeted responses to hostile actions from Russian forces.
In addition, the West has supplied thousands of firearms, anti-aircraft missiles, artillery weapons, shells, and aviation bombs, which play a pivotal role in weakening the invading Russian army and contribute significantly to Ukraine's defensive capabilities.
As of December 2023, EU support to Ukraine has totalled around €85 billion (see the infographic here) which includes €25.17 billion in military support.
