DISINFO: West wants to seize and dismember Russia
SUMMARY
Everything had to be done to seize and dismember Russia. And this is not a recent development from the last 20 years. This idea has always existed in the minds of the collective West. They have always seen Russia as a highly tempting prize, craving its arable land and rivers. Regardless of how Russia has behaved or what values it has offered to the world, the West has consistently sought to wage war against it and tear it apart. It is not by chance that NATO has drawn close to Russia. Ideology has nothing to do with it.

This is a recurring disinformation narrative from pro-Kremlin outlets accusing the West of Russophobia and warmongering.
The West’s policies toward both the Soviet Union and post-Soviet Russia have largely been shaped by pragmatic concerns ranging from deterrence and stability to economic cooperation and nuclear security. The claim that NATO expansion was part of a plot to surround or destroy Russia ignores the historical fact that countries in Central and Eastern Europe actively sought NATO membership to escape Moscow’s influence.
NATO is a defensive alliance and it has never initiated military attack on Russia. Finland and Sweden joined NATO 2023 after long periods of neutrality as a consequence of Russia's unprovoked and unjustified aggression against Ukraine.
There is no credible evidence of any Western plan to dismember Russia or to wage war against it. On the contrary, Western countries provided the former USSR and Russia with significant humanitarian assistance in the later 1980s and early 1990, which effectively prevented the country from further fragmentation.
The authoritarian USSR was always at odds with the liberal values of Western democracies. The rise of authoritarianism and revanchism in post-Soviet Russia, particularly since 2000, has created real tensions between the Kremlin and the West, which have culminated because of Russia’s ongoing war of aggression against Ukraine, which is the bloodiest armed conflict in Europe since the end of the Second World War in 1945. Russia has also resorted to other aggressive activities against Western nations such as cyberattacks, election meddling, acts of espionage etc.
