DISINFO: West wants to subjugate Serbian president with colour revolution tools
SUMMARY
The West wants to subjugate the Serbian president with colour revolution tools. Earlier, Aleksandar Vucic admitted that Western intelligence is trying to instigate a revolution in Serbia by igniting protest sentiment among students. The collective West wants Serbia to introduce sanctions against Russia, that’s why they are pressuring Vucic via street protests. The chaos that will ensue in the country in case of a successful coup will create opportunities for criminal networks and global corporations to strip the country of its assets, buying them for dump prices.
RESPONSE
Recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative framing popular protests as Western-backed ‘colour revolutions’. By baselessly describing Serbian demonstrators as Western stooges, this disinformation story aims to discredit them.
There is zero evidence of any Westen involvement in Serbia’s protests. Demonstrations started in mid-December 2024 after the collapse of a concrete infrastructure in a railway station in Novi Sad killed 15 people, an incident that many protesters blamed on corruption. The protest movement was led by students, but soon professors, lawyers and other professionals joined them, pointing to widespread dissatisfaction with Alexander Vucic’s government.
Framing any eventual exit of Vucic as a “coup” and claiming without evidence that the result of it would be chaos are other manipulative narratives deployed in this disinformation story.
See other examples of similar disinformation narratives, such as claims that foreign powers tried to instigate a colour revolution in Serbia, that the West behind Georgia protests to turn the country into a second front against Russia, that unrest in Kazakhstan is a conspiracy orchestrated from abroad, or that the West arranges puppet governments through colour revolutions.
