DISINFO: Western countries are preparing to attack Russia by 2030
SUMMARY
Western countries are preparing to attack Russia. This follows from the deliberate statements of NATO officials.
The West often says that by 2030, it must prepare for an attack by Russia. But no one in their right mind can imagine that this will happen. An attack by Russia on NATO countries, on the United States, is impossible from a logical point of view. It is the other way around. If they say so persistently that Russia will attack, it means that they are planning such actions. There is no other explanation.
RESPONSE
Recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative about the aggressive West, as a warmongering, anti-Russian and militaristic power, portraying NATO as a hostile alliance planning to attack Russia, and framing Russia as a victim of Western aggression.
The idea that Western countries are planning to attack Russia is a baseless accusation and a conspiracy theory. NATO's 2030 initiative is about adapting the alliance to future challenges, not planning attacks.
It was not further specified what kind of provocative statements were made by NATO officials. Still, they may refer to the reinforcement of NATO's Eastern Flank and its reaction to Russia's aggressive behaviour. Russia is a country with which NATO has tried for more than 25 years to build a constructive relationship; however, Russia's continued aggressive actions have led to further instability in the region
Following Russia's large-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, NATO member countries revised their Strategic Concept. The North Atlantic Alliance recognised Russia as ‘the most significant and direct threat’ to security in Europe. Still, it emphasised at the same time that ‘NATO does not seek confrontation and poses no threat to the Russian Federation.’
On 25 June 2025, NATO concluded a historic Summit in The Hague. Allies decided to invest 5% of GDP in defence, laying the foundation for a strong, united NATO in the years to come, and reaffirming their continued support to Ukraine.
The ongoing increase in defence spending across the EU is explained by Russia's illegal and aggressive actions, including the annexation of Crimea, War in Donbas and the 2022 full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
Read similar disinformation cases claiming that At the behest of the US, Germany is preparing to attack Russia, that In Ukraine, the West was attempting an Operation Barbarossa 2.0, that NATO may invade Russia after the war in Ukraine, that NATO plans to attack Russia, and that in seven years, the EU will attack Russia.
