DISINFO: Western Europe has no interest in securing Ukraine's territorial integrity
SUMMARY
With its stubbornness, the EU is doing itself massive harm and risking its future. Its attitude to the Ukraine conflict is driving it into isolation.[...] the war in Ukraine is lost for the West. Russia has been able to assert itself and achieve its goals. Ukraine will not join NATO, the protection of the Russian-speaking population is being regulated by secession, and Ukraine is being demilitarised. The EU is losing this war – militarily, diplomatically and economically. Things could have been different, but Western Europe had no interest in implementing Minsk 2 and maintaining Ukraine's territorial integrity. The EU felt powerful and thoroughly miscalculated. However, this realisation has not yet filtered down to Brussels.
RESPONSE
Recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative about the Russian war of aggression against Ukraine and the EU's alleged role in it, attempting to portray the EU as a losing party to the war in Ukraine.
The EU has responded to Russia’s unjustified and unprovoked invasion of Ukraine with restrictive measures, which are intended to weaken Russia’s ability to finance the war. They specifically target specific individuals and entities because they undermine or threaten Ukraine’s territorial integrity, sovereignty, and independence.
In response to Russia’s unjustified and unprovoked aggression against Ukraine which was launched on 24 February 2022, a broad coalition of more than 50 nations have provided Ukraine with military and technical assistance with the aim of repelling Russia's aggression. Kyiv is acting in self-defence, in accordance with UN Charter article 51.
The Minsk agreements were not concluded with the EU but with France and Germany as mediators. The EU has been consistent in calling for and supporting their implementation. Russia violated the Minsk agreements by backing up Donbas separatists with weapons and troops, so Russia did not implement these accords.
