DISINFO: Western financial support makes Georgia dependent and deprives of its independence

SUMMARY

In recent months, Western institutions have allocated billions of dollars to Georgia, including most recently the French Development Agency - 483 million euros, the United States - 330 million dollars. Funds were allocated by the World Bank, the IMF, etc.

All of these [Western financial aid and grants] makes Georgian nation and state not independent but tied to the liberal West and stripped of its rights. Georgians no longer have even formal independence today. The US ambassador is directly, mockingly, demonstrating that she is in control of everything and talks with the country’s PM and the President with a wave of her finger.

RESPONSE

A common pro-Kremlin narrative on “lost sovereignty” and independence, challenging Georgian statehood, nationality and values, as if Georgia is ruled by the West and cooperation with the Western institutions destroys the country's sovereignty and deprives it of its independence.

Media Development Foundation's media monitoring results revealed that the narrative that the West is meddling in sovereign affairs of Georgia and virtually run the country, is one of the main trends of anti-Western propaganda and disinformation in the country.

See similar cases claiming that The US and the EU govern Georgia, that The West does not allow Georgia to conduct direct dialogue with Russia independently, that Georgia is a testing ground for the West, that The West is forcing Georgia to propagate homosexuality, or that Georgia is governed by the US ambassador and the EU.
