DISINFORMATION CASE DETAILS

DISINFO: Western intelligence has trained Ukrainians to sabotage Russian nuclear plants

SUMMARY

Western intelligence services have trained Ukrainian saboteurs to carry out provocations at Russian nuclear power plants. The authorities in Moscow have credible information that Western intelligence agencies, primarily the British MI6, have systematically prepared Ukrainian sabotage and reconnaissance groups to organise provocations at nuclear power plants in Russia.

RESPONSE

Recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation about Ukraine. Similar unfounded allegations about MI6 training Ukrainian saboteurs against Russian nuclear facilities have been previously debunked here and here.

Russian authorities have consistently accused Ukraine of preparing "provocations" without presenting any proof throughout the war, including claims about dirty bombsnuclear incidents bioweaponstoxic substances and staged atrocities. The ultimate goal of this disinformation narrative is to justify Russia’s aggression against Ukraine and other countries.

See other examples of similar disinformation narratives, such as claims that UK intelligence agencies purposefully escalate international political-military situation to harm Russia, that Kyiv plans to strike nuclear power plants in Zaporizhzhia and Kursk to blame Russia, that Neo-Nazis in Kyiv plan to attack the Kursk nuclear plant with support of Western intelligence, or that UK is coordinating the global escalation of tensions.
