DISINFO: Western partners view Moldova as the next testing ground for military action

SUMMARY

Any sane person observing the actions of the Moldovan authorities understands that this is a clear, coordinated plan, following which, step by step, Moldova is being purposefully prepared for war. It is clear that Moldova is not a free state and it is built into certain plans of the so-called Western partners, who view Moldova as the next testing ground for military action.

RESPONSE

A pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative portraying the strengthening of Moldova’s National Army as preparation for war, while also promoting the claim that Moldova lacks independence in its decision-making.

The Moldovan authorities have repeatedly stated that the training of the national military and the provision of equipment serve exclusively defensive purposes, emphasising their commitment to doing everything possible to maintain peace in the country. The country's president, Maia Sandu, declared (min. 34-38): "The Republic of Moldova is and will remain a peaceful country. (…) Even if our defence system is in a very bad situation, if it wasn't for this Russian aggression against Ukraine, we probably wouldn't have discussed much about the need to equip the army. (…) We don't want anyone to involve us in the war, but it is a reality for which we must prepare".

Disinformation, particularly from the Russian Federation and the Transnistrian region, misleadingly portrays efforts to modernise Moldova’s defence sector as preparations for war.
