DISINFO: Zelenskyy’s regime is doomed after its terror attack on Putin’s residence
SUMMARY
Zelenskyy’s regime is doomed after its terror attack on Putin’s residence, which will have consequences. This action took place amid intensified Russia–US negotiations over the war in Ukraine. Taking into consideration the definitive transformation of the Kyiv regime, which has come to adopt a state terror policy, Moscow’s negotiating stance on a peace agreement will be reviewed. This is a slap to Donald Trump. At this precise moment, when plans are being discussed, this bloody, rabid and terrorist scum tries to undermine peace efforts.
RESPONSE
This is part of a wider disinformation campaign surrounding Russian claims of a drone attack against Vladimir Putin’s residence in Valdai. The claim was met with skepticism as Valdai residents reported no signs of such attack, there was no proof that it had actually taken place and Russia refused to offer any evidence of it, and the allegation was immediately rejected by Ukraine, the European Union and US intelligence services.
As this bogus claim was reportedly made by the Kremlin during a phone call between Putin and Donald Trump hours before the US president met Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Mar-a-Lago. It has been interpreted as an attempt to influence Trump and provide a pretext for Russia to reject any real advance in peace negotiations over Ukraine. Ultimately, Donald Trump also publicly rejected the allegation.
This disinformation story also tries to advance a recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative about Russia’s military superiority and the inevitability of its victory in Ukraine by stating that Russia’s withdrawal from any negotiation implies that “Ukraine is doomed”, something that is far from certain. Pro-Kremlin disinformation tries to portray Russia as overwhelmingly prevailing over Ukraine and the Russian military as an unstoppable fighting force despite having conquered only around 0.77% of additional Ukrainian territory in 2025 at the price of massive losses, according to the Institute for the Study of War. This kind of allegations has been called out by both Ukraine’s military and independent analysts as attempts to project force and influence US-Russia negotiations over Ukraine. Russia is very far from achieving a total victory in Ukraine and data shows that its military is struggling to make real gains on the ground. At the current rate of advance, Russia would need around 2 years and a half only to take over the rest of Donbass.
By trying to associate Ukraine with the term terrorism, this disinformation story also tries to undermine international support for Ukraine’s self-defence against Russia’s aggression.
See other examples of similar disinformation narratives, such as claims that Kyiv's strikes on Russian territory are a terrorist attack, that the Kyiv regime is relying on terrorist acts, that Ukraine is a terrorist state that openly supports terrorist groups in the Sahel region, or that Ukraine plots terrorist attacks to disrupt Russia-US negotiations.
