On 25 March, we join Belarusians in celebrating the 106th anniversary of the proclamation of the independence of the free Belarusian People’s Republic in 1918. It is also called the Belarus #FreedomDay.

This is again an occasion to recall the harsh realities in Belarus, remember the situation for the people and reflect on the basic rights and freedom of speech. Compared to our coverage last year, the situation is still very dire.

Belarus authorities and pro-Kremlin actors are eager to cover up the brutal suppression of independent thought and free speech of Belarusians. See our recent reflections examining the so-called parliamentary elections in Belarus.

We support the people of Belarus in their quest for a free, democratic, sovereign and independent Belarus as part of a peaceful Europe and we continue to shed light on the developments through our dedicated site on Belarus and illuminate examples of manipulation and disinformation via our database.
